Visitors

On Wednesday 12th January Zozo came into school to work with us on our drumming.

We sang lots of songs and played drumming rhythms to accompany them.

Zozo was very impressed with all of us.

Watch the slideshow below to see what we did.

On Tuesday 30th November Class 3 worked with some University of Cumbria students on a variety of outdoor and environmental activities.

We all did lots of different and fun activities like, making a den, drinking hot chocolate, making a cake in the fire pit, shelter building, team work games, snow sculptures and much much more.

We had a brilliant time! See our slideshow below for a taster of what we did.

Today (Wednesday 14th April) we have had a drumming workshop with Zozo. We recapped all the songs we have learnt over the year and came up with our own drum rhythms to accompany them. We also learnt a new rhythm to go with the welcome song Kabbo.

See the pictures below to see us playing the drums and percussion instruments.

Today (Wednesday 24th March) we have had a video conference with the London Symphony Orchestra. We met Rob who plays the trumpet. He told us about the sections in the orchestra and played us different pieces of music created with each of the instruments. He also talked us through how to play the trumpet and how to get different sounds from it for example, the triple tongue.

The London symphony orchestra has played music for lots of different films like, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones,

James Bond and Fantastic Mr Fox.

See the pictures below to see what we did.

Class 3 had a very busy day today (Tuesday 12th May) because as well as a visit from Tim Farron - see below - we also had a visit from Mr Mike Westmacott. Mr Westmacott lives in Staveley and was part of the Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay expedition to the summit of Everest. Although he didn't go to the summit he was an essential part of the team and his main job was to keep the icefall open.

Mr Westmacott brought in his down coat that he wore on the expedition. It kept him warm especially at night when temperatures were below zero!
Here Mr Westmacott is showing us the different parts of Mount Everest and the route his party took.
Signing books
Class 3 and Mr Westmacott
Mr Westmacott very kindly signed books that the children had brought in. He also signed Joseph's ice axe.

We had our picture taken with Mr Westmacott. We really enjoyed listening to his stories and the interesting things he told us.

Class 3 have had a very important visitor in school today. Mr Tim Farron came in to talk to the class about the environmental issues they had highlighted in a letter to the Westmorland Gazette. He talked to us about the state of the roads in Staveley, litter, recycling and discussed some of the things that could be done. He also answered questions about what it was like to be a politician and the things his job involves. He also told us about meeting the Queen.

Class 3 have had some visitors come in to their class from London.

They came to show us what it is like to live in London and how they get around on the London Underground.

Wendy and Terry talked to the class about different places in London. They showed us pictures of places like Canary Wharf, The Houses of Parliament and The Underground.
We learnt about the different lines on the London Underground and then we got into groups to make some of them.

We really enjoyed finding out more about London. Some of us have never been but would like to go now!

At the end we showed Terry and Wendy a Power point about our village.
