Podcasts - - - A no-nonsense guide
A Podcast is an audio file that can be accessed via the Internet. It is like a stored Radio programme that you can keep and listen to whenever you wish. If you use a piece of software called an 'Aggregator' such as iTunes or Doppler, you can subscribe (no money involved) to the Podcast. If you do this, your software will automatically find any new episodes and download them for you to listen to. Podcasts can also include still or moving pictures but this page deals only with audio.
Listening to our Podcast News
The simplest way is to click on the RSS button
on the front page of our website. This will take you to another page where you will see each episode listed as separate mp3 files. You only need to click on a file and it will open in your preferred media player. This might be Windows Media Player, Quick Time or whatever else you may have installed and set as default. You can listen over and over, just one or save to listen later.
If you want the latest version of Windows Media player click on the logo.
Subscribing to our Podcast News
For this you need to have an aggregator. The most popular is iTunes, which can be downloaded for free from here
This is a nice little piece of software and has many other uses beyond Podcasts. If you have an iPod, you may already be familar with iTunes. Through iTunes you could even download our newsletters onto your iPod and listen to them on the move...
Once you have iTunes installed, click on the RSS icon on the front page of the school website
and your browser will take to a further page. On this page there are also additional help guides. Copy the address for this page from the address bar and return to iTunes. From the top menu items choose 'Advanced' and 'Subscribe to Podcast...'. Paste the address you have copied into the space provided.
That's it.
We are using a brand new piece of Software from Softease called 'Podium'. It only came out last week and it really couldn't be a better way to get your podcasts up on line. It's as simple as record then one click to publish. Brilliant!
If you want more information about how to listen, Podium do a very good guide here.
