‘Come in on a Friday after school and look at your child’s work.’

We offer parents the opportunity to come into school on a regular basis to look at their children’s work. As you know the school has an ‘Open Door’ policy which means that anyone is welcome to come into school at any time. However many parents feel uncomfortable to simply turn up and ask to look at their child’s work. In view of this we have tried to establish a regular opportunity in addition to our normal welcome. Friday after school provides an opportunity to share work with your child quietly and without need for an appointment or any other arrangement. They may have work they want to show you or you may just want to have a look at anything ongoing in their trays or books.

This is not normally a consultation time and there is no expectation that staff will be or need to be present. If you have concerns about any aspect of your child’s education, lease contact the class teacher in the normal way.

Our hope is that this process becomes a normal part of the routine rather than a special occasion. We want our children to be proud of their achievements and to want to show them to you. Fridays have been chosen as most members of staff tend to leave a little earlier and therefore you can take as much time as you wish without any feeling that you are keeping anyone from other things.

Our initial suggestion was to tie Fridays to the class show and say assembly, believing that the work they had shown that day could for the basis of the process. However due to inevitable changes in schedule, it was impossible to predict precisely which class would be on which week. In light of this and in consultation with the Parent Forum, we now suggest that any Friday is available for any class.

If for work or other commitments, Fridays are impossible for you, please don’t feel excluded from the process. Contact your child’s teacher or remember that 0ur door is always open.

This is NOT intended in ANY way to limit your visits. Particularly for our youngest children you may already be in the habit of popping in every day to look at their work. If you share their work every day, you are absolutely welcome to continue doing so. This process is essentially aimed at parents of slightly older children who may perhaps not have called in on a regular basis.
