Composting Club is usually Monday or Tuesday lunchtimes, and various children are happy to help as well as our Compost Champions who keep an eye on things day to day, and empty any classroom contents into the main bin. Our aim is to fill the bin as much as possible, because that gets the heat up, so the compost creatures get on with their work. I bring in some leftover veg from the food share, and coffee grounds (thanks Duffins), and shredded paper. The children help to sieve the lumpy coffee and chop up the veg, and we add these in LAYERS for a good mix of browns and greens (Carbon or Nitrogen rich)
Thank you to the people who have been adding some of their household scraps to the bin on the Lane by the church, that’s cooking nicely too. The children know the importance of keeping the bin lid on tight, and remark how warm it is inside when opened. NO plastic please, bio-degradeable labelled bags may still be PLASTIC. Wendi L
